We’re supporting the Sport for Development Coalition’s response to the the 2021 Youth Index published by the Prince’s Trust, which revealed that young people’s happiness and confidence is at its lowest ever rating since the Index was first published in 2009.
Alongside organisations within the Sport for Development Coalition, we’re ready to play our part in responding to the report which revealed that the Covid-19 pandemic has taken a “devastating toll” on young people’s mental health and wellbeing.
The Prince’s Trust Tesco Youth Index finds that one in four young people (26 per cent) admit they feel “unable to cope with life” since the start of the pandemic, increasing to 40 per cent among those not in work, education or training (NEETs). Half of 16 to 25-year-olds (50 per cent) say their mental health has worsened since the start of the pandemic.
We know the impact the closure of sport and sporting facilities has had on young people across the UK throughout the pandemic, which was displayed by clubs during our #ClubsInCrisis competition, and that’s why we’re also backing the Coalition’s ‘Adapt, Support, Respond’ campaign to highlight how charities and organisations have continued to support young people throughout lockdown, and why we need to continue to offer quick and helpful support to young people during the ongoing pandemic.
