We’re delighted to announce that Charlie Hyman has joined our Board of Trustees as we look to strengthen our work in raising awareness and funds for grassroots and community sport.
Charlie joins us with a wealth of experience in the community sports sector, having founded Bloomsbury Football in 2018, a charity that uses the power of the sport to improve the lives of young people in London. Alongside being the CEO of Bloomsbury Football, Charlie is one of the most influential young leaders across sport having been included in the Sport Industry’s Next Gen ’30 under 30’ in 2021.
Charlie is also a notable Futsal player having represented England at international level.
Speaking on his appointment to our Board, Charlie hopes he can use his passion for football and community sport to bring awareness to its impact across society.
“I first became aware of Made by Sport through the Clubs In Crisis fund and saw all the great work the charity was doing to help support community groups and clubs during this difficult period, but I was also fascinated by the advocacy side of the charity which aims to show that sport does so much good for society.”
With Charlie’s background of building a start-up community club in Bloomsbury Football which now provides affordable football sessions to thousands of young people across London, he is hopeful that Made by Sport can be the platform to show the social value of grassroots sport across the four nations.
“I understand the struggles of community groups and clubs that use sport as a vehicle to achieve great things for individuals and society in general, and I think it’s really invaluable that there is an organisation like Made by Sport that will shout out for them and try to secure support where it is needed.”
“Through my journey with Bloomsbury Football I often heard funders saying ‘all you do is sport’ and that is so frustrating because clubs and groups across the UK do so much more and it’s about time that message is not only spread but understood by a wider audience.”
Charlie undertook his first meeting earlier this month when he joined our latest Board of Trustees meeting in London, where he also met other members of the Made by Sport team.
Welcome Charlie – it’s great to have you on board!
